The Huntland High School Lady Hornets beat the South Pittsburg Lady Pirates 17-5 at home Monday for their eighth win of the season.
The Lady Hornets scored multiple runs in every inning with a nine-run frame in the third securing their seventh straight victory.
The Lady Hornets got off to a fast start with an RBI triple by Hadley Gardner scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. Mattie Danley followed with an RBI double to score Gardner and make it a 3-0 game early.
The Lady Pirates got their first run in the top of the second, but the Lady Hornets scored three more runs in the bottom half of the inning to push the early lead up to 6-1. Ashtyn Danley, Gardner and Mattie Danley each collected one RBI for the inning.
The Lady Pirates erased most of the lead in the top of the third as they pushed across four runs to make it a one-score game.
However, the Lady Hornets quickly pulled back ahead by five as Bailey Morris and Deanna Burton each got RBI hits and Ashtyn Danley hit a two-run double to make it a 10-5 game.
The Lady Hornets were still not done scoring for the third inning as Jocy May and Hannah Daniel each got hit by pitches with the bases loaded to drive in two more runs, Camerin Davis scored on a fielder’s choice, and Megan Tipps hit a two-run single to cap off the scoring and put the lead at 15-5.
The contest would be wrapped up in the fourth inning via the mercy rule as Dara Jernigan hit an RBI double and later scored on a single hit by Mattie Danley to give the Lady Hornets the 12-run victory.
With the win, the Lady Hornets improved to 8-1 on the season.
They will next play Thursday at Cornersville High School. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
