The Huntland High School Lady Hornets beat the Forrest Lady Rockets 56-42 on the road Tuesday in the debut game of their campaign.

The Lady Hornets never trailed in the contest as they steadily built up their lead and maintained it to open their season with a win.

The Lady Hornets opened the game with a 10-0 run to give themselves a decent cushion early. Aysia Williams hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to boost the early lead further.

They led 15-7 after one quarter.

The Lady Rockets cut the lead down to five points midway through the second quarter, but the Lady Hornets ended the first half on a 9-2 run to push the lead back to double digits.

They led 30-18 at halftime.

The teams traded baskets throughout the third quarter with the Lady Hornets remaining in firm control of the scoreboard.

They led 42-32 going into the final period.

The Lady Hornets never let the lead shrink to less than eight points in the fourth quarter as they went on to win by 14.

Anna Stevenson led the Lady Hornets with 23 points for the game, followed by Williams with eight points and Brooklyn Morris with seven.

Logan McLennan scored six points, Kami Riley scored five, Ashtyn Danley scored four, Bailey Morris scored two and Maddux Golden scored one.

With the win, the Lady Hornets opened their season with a record of 1-0.

They are next scheduled to play on Dec. 1 at home against Community High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
