The Huntland High School Lady Hornets lost to the Whitwell Lady Tigers 58-32 at home Thursday for their eighth loss of the season.
The Lady Hornets had difficulty scoring throughout the contest as their 13-game winning streak came to an end.
The Lady Tigers scored the first six points of the game, but the Lady Hornets responded with a 14-4 run to jump ahead early.
Huntland led 14-10 after one quarter.
The Lady Tigers began to take control in the second quarter with a 17-3 run putting them ahead for the rest of the half. Mikaylie Edwards scored four of Huntland’s six points in the second quarter.
The Lady Hornets trailed 28-20 at halftime.
The Lady Hornets were limited to just five points in the third quarter as they continued to fall further behind.
They trailed 41-25 going into the final period.
The Lady Tigers remained in complete control throughout the fourth quarter as the Lady Hornets lost by 26 points. It was their first loss since Dec. 28, 2019.
Edwards led the Lady Hornets with 13 points for the game, followed by Maddux Golden with six points and Brooklyn Morris with five.
Anna Stevenson scored four points, and Camille Bland and Logan McLennan scored two points each.
With the loss, the Lady Hornets moved to 20-8 on the season.
They will next play Wednesday at home against either Cascade High School or Fayetteville City High School in a semifinal game for their district tournament. A time for the game had not been announced at the time of writing.
