The Huntland Middle School Hornets beat the Flintville Bobcats 52-22 on the road Thursday for their sixth win of the season.
The Hornets got out to an early lead and turned the game into a blowout in the second half as they expanded their winning streak to five games.
Both teams got off to fast starts on offense with five total touchdowns being scored in the first quarter.
The Hornets held a 22-14 advantage at the end of the first period, and they made it a two-score game by the end of the half.
They led 36-22 at halftime.
The Hornets added two more touchdowns in the second half and held Flintville scoreless the rest of the way to secure the 30-point victory.
Grant Jernigan led the offense for the Hornets as he finished the day with 14 carries for 105 yards, one reception for 45 yards, four total touchdowns and three two-point conversions.
Ellis Stewart had 12 rushing yards, 66 receiving yards and a touchdown as well as 55 yards on kick returns.
Max Alton carried the ball twice for 34 yards and a touchdown, and Luke Yarbrough added 64 rushing yards and a touchdown on seven carries.
Parker Schultz completed two passes for 60 yards and threw a touchdown.
The Hornets’ defense was in the opposing backfield throughout the contest, racking up 11 tackles for loss on the day.
With the win, the Hornets improved to 6-1 on the season.
They will next play on Sept. 27 at home against South Giles Middle School. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
