The Huntland Middle School Hornets beat the Moore County Raiders 56-19 at home Monday for their third win of the season.
The Hornets created most of their lead in the first half as they dominated the contest for a home victory.
The Hornets got off to a strong start as they opened up a decent early advantage on their opponent. Tyrese Stovall scored 12 of Huntland’s 14 points in the first quarter.
They led 14-6 after one quarter.
The second quarter would be much more lopsided as the Hornets allowed just one point on defense while scoring 24 on the other end to turn the game into an early blowout.
They led 38-7 at halftime.
The Raiders began to do more scoring in the third quarter, but the Hornets continued to hold them at bay.
They led 46-13 going into the final period.
The Hornets didn’t give up any ground in the fourth quarter as they went on to win by a final margin of 37 points.
Stovall led the Hornets with 24 points for the game, followed by Demetri Reed and Brody Maxwell with six points each.
Grant Jernigan, Noah McLennan, Julius Miller and Kannon Lafevers scored four points each, and Luke Yarbrough and Ellis Stewart scored two points each.
With the win, the Hornets improved to 3-1 on the season.
They will next play Tuesday at home against Flintville Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
