The Huntland Middle School Hornets lost to the Moore County Raiders 41-27 on the road Thursday for their fifth loss of the season.
The Raiders pulled away in the third quarter and the Hornets were not able to get back into it as their six-game winning streak was snapped.
The Hornets got off to a slow start on offense as the Raiders were able to create some early separation. Zeier Golden scored five of Huntland’s seven points in the first quarter.
They trailed 12-7 after one quarter.
The Hornets were able to keep the score close in the second quarter as they limited the Raiders to just four points for the period.
They trailed 16-12 at halftime.
However, the Raiders dominated in the third quarter as the deficit hit double digits for the first time in the contest.
The Hornets trailed 33-19 going into the final period.
The deficit remained steady throughout the fourth quarter as the Hornets couldn’t make up any ground before losing by 14.
Golden and Trace Kilpatrick led the Hornets with nine points each for the game, followed by Daltyn Howell with four points.
Tyrese Stovall scored three points and Ethan Sons scored two.
With the loss, the Hornets moved to 12-5 on the season.
They will next play Monday at Unity Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
