The Huntland Middle School Hornets lost to the Bridgeforth Bobcats 43-19 on the road Monday in their first game of the season.
The Hornets were outscored in every quarter as the Bobcats steadily pulled away from them throughout the night.
The Hornets took some time to get their offense going as they made just one shot from the field in the opening period.
They trailed 11-4 after one quarter.
The Bobcats started the second quarter with an 8-1 run to bring the early deficit up to double digits.
The Hornets trailed 22-8 at halftime.
The Bobcats then scored the first 10 points of the second half to push the deficit to more than 20 points, but the Hornets then went on a 7-0 run of their own to make up some of that lost ground.
They trailed 32-15 going into the final period.
The Hornets were not able to cut into the deficit in the fourth quarter as they took the loss by 24 points.
Grant Jernigan and Landon Farmer led the Hornets with four points each for the game, followed by Ellis Stewart with three points and Julius Miller, Luke Yarbrough, Chandler Banks and Avery Petty with two points each.
With the loss, the Hornet started their season with a record of 0-1.
They will next play Thursday at home against Blanche Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
