The Huntland Middle School Hornets beat the Flintville Bobcats 46-38 at home Monday for their fifth win of the season.
The Hornets built a sizable early lead and held off a late rally to extend their current winning streak to four games.
The Hornets limited their opposition to just four points in the first quarter which allowed them to build an early lead.
They led 8-4 after one quarter.
The Hornets put together a strong second quarter on the offensive end as they dropped 19 points to extend their lead to double digits.
They led 27-11 at halftime.
The teams played evenly in the third quarter as the Hornets maintained their advantage. Zeier Golden scored seven of his team’s nine points in the period.
They led 36-20 going into the final period.
The Bobcats attempted a late rally with plenty of points in the fourth quarter, but the Hornets remained a step ahead as they won by eight.
Golden led the Hornets with 16 points for the game, followed by Tyrese Stovall with 13 points and Trace Kilpatrick with seven.
Daltyn Howell scored five points, DaShuan Reynolds scored three and Landon Farmer scored two.
With the win, the Hornets improved to 5-2 on the season.
They will next play Tuesday at Fayetteville Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
