The Huntland Middle School Hornets beat the South Lincoln Eagles 43-31 on the road Monday for their sixth win of the season.
The Hornets got out to an early lead and never surrendered it as they were able to dominate in the post throughout the day.
The Hornets opened the game with a 9-2 run to establish early control of the scoreboard.
They led 11-6 after one quarter.
The Hornets continued to maintain a solid lead as they allowed just five points from the Eagles in the second quarter. Zeier Golden scored five of Huntland’s eight points in the period.
They led 19-11 at halftime.
The Hornets scored the last six points of the third quarter to build the lead up to double digits with the deficit remaining at that point for the remainder of the game.
They led 31-18 going into the final period.
The Hornets didn’t allow the game to become close at all in the fourth quarter as they finished the day with a 12-point victory.
Golden led the Hornets with 17 points for the game, followed by Daltyn Howell and DaShuan Reynolds with nine points each.
Trace Kilpatrick and Tyrese Stovall scored four points each.
With the win, the Hornets improved to 6-3 on the season.
They will next play Thursday at home against Moore County Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
