The Huntland Middle School Hornets beat the Unity Lions 40-29 on the road Monday for their 14th win of the season.
The Hornets jumped out to an early lead and maintained it for the rest of the game to close out their regular season with a victory.
The Hornets limited their opponents to just three points in the opening period to get in front early.
They led 8-3 after one quarter.
The Lions did more scoring in the second quarter, but so did the Hornets as they nearly tripled their advantage.
They led 23-9 at halftime.
The Hornets were slowed down on offense in the third quarter. However, they still held a decent lead when the period ended.
They led 28-17 going into the final period.
The Hornets didn’t give up any ground in the fourth quarter as they went on to win the contest by 11 points.
Trace Kilpatrick led the Hornets with 12 points for the game, followed by Tyrese Stovall and Zeier Golden with seven points each.
Daltyn Howell scored six points, Landon Farmer scored five, Evan Keller scored two and DaShuan Reynolds scored one.
With the win, the Hornets improved to 14-5 on the season.
They will next play Saturday against either Liberty Middle School or Highland Rim Middle School in the quarterfinals of their sub-sectional tournament. A time and location for the game had not been announced at the time of writing
