The Huntland Middle School Hornets lost to the Fayetteville Tigers 39-31 on the road Tuesday for their third loss of the season.
The Hornets were outscored in each of the first three quarters and a late rally came up short in the fourth quarter.
The Hornets were limited to just four points in the first quarter as the Tigers pulled ahead early.
The Hornets trailed 11-4 after one quarter.
The second quarter went in a similar direction with the Tigers continuing to add to their early lead.
The Hornets trailed 21-10 at halftime. Demetri Reed scored seven of Huntland’s 10 points in the first half.
The Hornets were still not able to make up any ground in the third quarter as they trailed 33-16 going into the final period.
The Hornets almost doubled their point total in the fourth quarter to cut away most of the deficit, but they would still take a loss by eight points.
Tyrese Stovall led the Hornets with 11 points for the game, followed by Reed with seven points and Landon Farmer with five.
Grant Jernigan, Kannon Lafevers, Brody Maxwell and Ellis Stewart scored two points.
With the loss, the Hornets moved to 3-3 on the season.
They will next play Dec. 10 at home against Blanche Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
