Huntland's Zeier Golden backs down a defender in the post during a game Tuesday against Highland Rim Middle School. Golden scored 20 points in the 45-29 win.

The Huntland Middle School Hornets beat the Highland Rim Hornets 45-29 at home Tuesday for their third win of the season.

The Hornets maintained a steady lead and pulled away in the fourth quarter to push their record for the season above .500.

The Huntland Hornets closed out the opening quarter on an 8-2 run which gave them their first real lead of the day.

They led 14-8 after one quarter.

The Huntland players continued to hold their opponents at bay throughout the second quarter with very little ground being made up or gained.

They led 22-15 at halftime.

The Highland Rim Hornets cut the lead down to three points midway through the third quarter, but Huntland added a few more baskets to put the lead back at seven.

Huntland led 28-21 going into the final period.

The Huntland Hornets saved their best offensive quarter for last as they ended the game on a 15-4 run to win by 16 points.

Zeier Golden led the Hornets with 20 points for the game, followed by Tyrese Stovall with 12 points and DaShuan Reynolds with five.

Trace Kilpatrick scored four points, and Daltyn Howell and Landon Farmer scored two points each.

With the win, the Hornets improved to 3-2 on the season.

They will next play Thursday at Liberty Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
