The Huntland Middle School Hornets beat the South Giles Middle School Eagles 38-8 at home Thursday for their first win of the season.

The Hornets racked up more than 400 rushing yards on the day as they dominated the Eagles for a blowout victory.

Harlan Pitts led the rushing attack for the Hornets with 207 total yards. Pitts also scored three of the five touchdowns for the Hornets on the day.

Ethan Sons contributed 102 rushing yards while Trace Kilpatrick was close behind with 96 yards on the ground. Sons and Kilpatrick also each ran for a touchdown.

The Hornets’ defense limited the Eagles to just eight points as they were able to get consistent pressure in the backfield. DaShuan Reynolds, Zeier Golden and Kilpatrick each recorded multiple tackles for a loss in the contest.

The Hornets rotated some of their younger players into the game in the fourth quarter with the result of the contest already decided.

With the win, the Hornets improved to 1-2 on the season.

They will next play on Sept. 5 in a game at Unity Middle School. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
