The Huntland Middle School Lady Hornets beat the New Prospect Lady Tigers 67-15 at Lincoln Central Academy Saturday in the quarterfinals of their sectional tournament.
The Lady Hornets completely dominated the action on both sides of the court as they cruised to a win to advance to the semifinals of their sectional bracket.
The Lady Hornets scored the first 24 points of the contest which gave them more than enough of a cushion for the rest of the day.
They led 26-5 after one quarter.
The Lady Hornets didn’t slow down on offense in the second quarter as they continued to grow the lead to even higher levels.
They led 46-8 at halftime.
The tone for the game remained the same in the second half with the Lady Hornets adding another 11 points to their lead in the third quarter.
They led 62-13 going into the final period.
A running clock in the fourth quarter brought a quicker end to the contest as the Lady Hornets finished off the 52-point win.
Yareli Avalos led the Lady Hornets with 14 points for the game, followed by TaTianna Stovall and Jocy May with 10 points each.
Hazel Reed scored eight points, Aysia Williams scored six, Bailey Morris, Morgan Sanders and Kaley Barnett scored four points each, Jacey Riley, Maddie Burks and Marley Phillips scored two points each, and Kinsley Grace scored one point.
With the win, the Lady Hornets improved to 23-3 on the season.
They will next play Monday against South Lawrence Middle School at Lincoln Central Academy in a semifinal game for their sectional tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
