The Huntland Middle School Lady Hornets lost to the Bridgeforth Lady Bobcats 31-28 at home Monday for their second loss of the season.
The Lady Hornets held a 26-14 advantage going into the fourth quarter, but the Lady Bobcats would rally in the final period to give them a loss.
The Lady Hornets scored most of their points in the opening period as they built a double-digit lead early. Riley Maxwell scored 11 of Huntland’s 18 points in the first quarter.
They led 18-6 after one quarter.
The Lady Hornets slowed down their offensive pace a little in the second quarter, but they still maintained a solid lead.
They led 24-14 at halftime.
Both offenses stalled in the third quarter with a basket by Huntland’s Catara Johnson producing the only points of the period for either team.
The Lady Hornets led 26-14 going into the final period.
However, the Lady Bobcats saved their best offensive period for last as they put up 17 points in the fourth quarter while the Lady Hornets were limited to just two points in the frame as Huntland lost by three.
Maxwell led the Lady Hornets with 15 points for the game, followed by Johnson with six points and Stratton Davis with three.
Lynsey Jakubowski and Jimena Baires scored two points each.
With the loss, the Lady Hornets moved to 1-2 on the season.
They will next play Thursday at home against Moore County Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
