The Huntland Middle School Lady Hornets beat the Community Viqueens 2-1 at home Friday for their fourth win of the season.
The Lady Hornets overcame an early deficit and took the lead in the second half to keep their record for the year above .500.
The Viqueens were the first team on the board as a handball by Huntland in the box would lead to a goal off of a penalty kick in the first half.
However, the deficit would not last for long as Audrey Reynolds scored an equalizing goal later in the half off of a shot from just outside of the box. The goal was Reynolds’ first of the season.
The score was tied at 1-1 at halftime.
Jimena Perez broke the tie midway through the second half as she scored her seventh goal of the year to put the Lady Hornets ahead.
The Viqueens made a big offensive push in the final minutes of the contest, but the Lady Hornets held them off to secure the one-goal victory.
With the win, the Lady Hornets improved to 4-2 on the season.
They will next play Wednesday at Fayetteville Middle School. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
