The Huntland Middle School Lady Hornets beat the Moore County Raiderettes 40-35 at home Monday for their fourth win of the season.

The contest was close throughout with the Lady Hornets holding on late to remain unbeaten on the season.

The Lady Hornets built a slight early advantage with the Raiderettes hanging around early to set the tone for the day.

The Lady Hornets led 11-8 after one quarter.

The Raiderettes flipped the scoreboard in the second quarter, marking the first time that the Lady Hornets have trailed at the end of a period this season.

They trailed 20-19 at halftime.

However, the Lady Hornets bounced back in the third quarter to retake the lead. TaTianna Stovall scored seven of Huntland’s 11 points in the third quarter.

They led 30-25 going into the final period.

The teams were completely even throughout the fourth quarter with the Lady Hornets maintaining their advantage to win by five.

Stovall led the Lady Hornets with 23 points for the game, followed by Marley Phillips with 11 points and Hazel Reed and Morgan Sanders with three points each.

With the win, the Lady Hornets improved to 4-0 on the season.

They will next play Tuesday at home against Flintville Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
