The Huntland Middle School Lady Hornets lost to the South Lincoln Lady Eagles 47-33 on the road Monday for their second loss of the season.

The Lady Hornets struggled on offense for most of the contest as their five-game winning streak came to an end.

The Lady Hornets started the game off well with an early lead, but the Lady Eagles ended the first quarter on an 11-2 run to put them behind.

They trailed 19-15 after one quarter.

The Lady Hornets scored just four points in the second quarter with all of their points coming on free throws.

They trailed 28-19 at halftime.

The Lady Eagles kept Huntland at a decent distance throughout the third quarter as the Lady Hornets continued to fall further behind.

They trailed 37-26 going into the final period.

The Lady Hornets cut the deficit down to seven points early in the fourth quarter, but that would be as close as they got before taking a loss by 14.

Bailey Morris and Yareli Avalos led the Lady Hornets with six points each for the game, followed by TaTianna Stovall and Jocy May with five points each.

Hazel Reed and Morgan Sanders scored four points each, Aysia Williams scored two points and Maddie Burks scored one.

With the loss, the Lady Hornets moved to 10-2 on the season.

They will next play Thursday at home against Moore County Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
