Luttrell and Clark

Franklin County's Chyenna Luttrell, wearing No. 7, and Huntland's Katherine Clark compete for the ball during a scrimmage Tuesday at Franklin County High School. Luttrell scored one of the goals for the Rebelettes in their 3-0 win in the varsity portion of the scrimmage.

The Franklin County Rebelettes and the Huntland High School Lady Hornets played in a scrimmage at FCHS Tuesday with the Rebelettes picking up a 3-0 win.

The preseason exhibition featured two 30-minute varsity periods and a 30-minute JV period. The Rebelettes outscored the Lady Hornets 3-0 in both the varsity section and the JV section.

Franklin County head soccer coach Kent Bean said that his players still have some things to work on before the start of the season, but they performed well overall.

“I got to see what we need to work on for the next two weeks before we start the regular season,” Bean said. “That’s why we do stuff like this, to be able to get a starting point and work from there.”

Bean added that overall awareness and making smarter decisions near the opposing goal are among the things his team will need to improve on.

Huntland head soccer coach Scott Worthington said that his defense played well in the exhibition game, but his team needs to work on their ball-control skills.

“My defense I thought was pretty decent. We’ve just got to work on our touches,” Worthington said. “Unforced errors really showed their head.”

Neither team was able to score in the first period of the scrimmage as the score remained tied at 0-0.

The Rebelettes got onto the board six minutes into the second period when Ella Masters tapped the ball past Huntland goalkeeper Megan Tipps for a score.

Savannah Wenger found the net on a long shot with 8:25 remaining in the second period to increase the lead further to 2-0.

Chyenna Luttrell rounded out the scoring for Franklin County in the varsity period with a goal a few minutes later to give the Rebelettes the 3-0 win. The Lady Hornets had a few chances to score, but the Rebelettes controlled the ball for a large majority of the game.

The JV Rebelettes picked up where their varsity counterparts had ended things by scoring three goals in their one period of play.

Haley Campbell got the first goal for the JV Rebelettes and Jasmine Alvarez added two more in the 3-0 victory.

The Rebelettes will open their season on Aug. 20 at Columbia Central High School. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Lady Hornets will play their first game on Aug. 20 at Cornersville High School. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
