The Franklin County Rebelettes beat the Moore County Raiderettes 9-5 at home Wednesday for their first win of the season.
The score was close for most of the night with the Rebelettes taking the lead for good in the fifth inning and pulling away in the sixth to break into the win column.
Franklin County head softball coach Kelly Kennedy said her team played well in the face of adversity throughout the contest.
“I think the girls played with a lot of heart. We had some kids out of position tonight due to some injuries, and I think that we really showed what we’re capable of,” she said.
The Raiderettes took an early with one run each in the first and third innings to jump ahead by a score of 2-0.
The Rebelettes flipped the scoreboard in their favor in the bottom of the third as Gracie Quarles hit into an RBI fielder’s choice and Jocilyn DeSmet followed with a two-run double to give Franklin County a 3-2 lead.
The lead wouldn’t last long as the Raiderettes pushed a run across in the top of the fourth to tie the score at 3-3.
The tie would last until the bottom of the fifth when Quarles hit an RBI single to give the Rebelettes a 4-3 lead. Kaitlyn Montgomery added an RBI infield single later in the frame, and Jocilyn DeSmet scored on a throwing error to make it a 6-3 game.
The Raiderettes scored two runs in the top of the sixth to tighten up the score, but the Rebelettes stranded the potential tying run at third base to end the frame.
The Rebelettes expanded their lead in the bottom of the sixth as Carissa Montgomery hit a sacrifice fly and Jocilyn DeSmet added an RBI double before later scoring on a wild pitch to make it a four-run game.
The Rebelettes held their opponent off the board in the top of the seventh to wrap up the win by four.
Miley DeSmet pitched the first 2 1-3 innings for the Rebelettes with one strikeout, five hits and two runs allowed.
Kaylee Morris pitched the remaining 4 2-3 innings in relief with one strikeout, five hits, two earned runs and one unearned run allowed.
With the win, the Rebelettes improved to 1-2 on the season.
Shelbyville 9, Rebelettes 8
The Rebelettes lost to the Shelbyville Central Golden Eaglettes 9-8 at home Tuesday for their second loss of the season.
The Rebelettes rallied from an early deficit to take the lead in the sixth inning, but the Golden Eaglettes scored three runs in the top of the seventh to jump back ahead and give Franklin County a loss in the district matchup.
The Golden Eaglettes scored four runs in the top of the first to quickly put the Rebelettes in a decent hole.
The Rebelettes began to slowly chip away at the deficit in the bottom of the first as Quarles hit an RBI single to put the score at 4-1. They scored again in the bottom of the second with Destin Milner coming around to score on an error to put the score at 4-2.
The Rebelettes added another run in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Emma Owens to make it a one-run contest.
However, the Golden Eaglettes scored two times in the top of the fourth to grow the deficit back up to 6-3 at the game’s midway point.
Quarles hit an RBI double to bring another runner across home plate in the bottom of the fourth, and Jocilyn DeSmet came around to score in the bottom of the fifth off of an error on a ball hit by Emma Owens to make it a 6-5 game.
The Rebelettes were able to tie the score in the bottom of the sixth when Madi Taylor scored from second following a single by Jocilyn DeSmet, and they broke through to take their first lead of the day a few batters later as an error on a ball hit by Milner produced a pair of runs to give them an 8-6 advantage.
However, the Golden Eaglettes scored three runs in the top of the seventh to give themselves the lead once more, and the Rebelettes went down in order in the bottom half of the inning to seal the one-run loss.
With the loss, the Rebelettes moved to 0-2 on the season and 0-1 in district play.
Marion County 11, Rebelettes 0
The Rebelettes lost to the Marion County Lady Warriors 11-0 at home Monday in their first game of the season.
The Rebelettes fell behind by a large margin early in the game and weren’t able to answer back as they took a loss in five innings.
The Lady Warriors scored five runs in the first inning and four in the second to immediately put the Rebelettes in a massive hole.
The Lady Warriors scored another two runs in the top of the fourth to push the deficit up to double digits.
The Rebelettes weren’t able to put up any runs in response as the contest ended after five innings due to the mercy rule.
With the loss, the Rebelettes started the season with a record of 0-1.
They will next play Friday in a trio of games for the Commando Classic in Hendersonville. Their first game for the tournament is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
