The Franklin County Rebels lost to the Lipscomb Academy Mustangs 41-0 on the road Friday for their sixth loss of the season.
The Rebels trailed for the entirety of the contest as they were shut out for the first time this season in the loss.
The Mustangs wasted no time before getting on the scoreboard as they returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown to take an immediate 7-0 lead.
After an unsuccessful opening drive for the Rebels, the Mustangs scored on their first play from scrimmage with a 67-yard run to put the deficit at 14-0 with eight minutes left in the first quarter.
The Mustangs added another touchdown a few minutes later as they led 21-0 with 4:33 remaining in the first quarter.
The Rebels got a defensive stop late in the opening period as Anthony Gautschi picked off a pass near Franklin County’s end zone to cut a drive short.
The Mustangs continued to bring the ball into Franklin County territory with two straight drives late in the second quarter, but the Rebels were able to limit them to a pair of field goals to make it a 27-0 game with two minutes left in the first half.
The Mustangs elected to continue building their lead before halftime as they attempted and successfully recovered an onside kick after taking a 27-point lead. They tacked on one more touchdown in the closing seconds of the first half to put the deficit at 34 points.
The Rebels trailed 34-0 at halftime.
The Rebels were able to bring the ball into opposing territory early in the third quarter, but a fumble would cut their drive short.
The Mustangs scored again shortly after to push the deficit to 41-0 with six minutes left in the third quarter.
The remainder of the contest would be played with a running clock as the Rebels were held scoreless the rest of the way and lost by 41.
Kaleb Rigsby completed three passes for 47 yards and had five carries for 23 yards.
Dakota Waggoner carried the ball 12 times for 22 yards and had two catches for 30 yards.
With the loss, the Rebels moved to 2-6 on the season.
They will next play Friday at Shelbyville Central High School. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
