Franklin County's Hunny Patel lines up a backhand shot in this file photo from the 2019 season. Patel recorded an 8-6 win in singles action and a 6-3 win while teaming with Emily Jernigan in a doubles match Thursday for the Rebelettes in their 5-2 win against Giles County High School. The Franklin County boys tennis team also won their match Thursday by a score of 5-2.

The Franklin County High School boys and girls tennis teams played the teams of Giles County at home Thursday with the Rebels and Rebelettes both winning by a 5-2 margin.

The Rebelettes dominated a majority of their singles matches for the day as they had four wins in that area.

Hunny Patel, Emily Jernigan, Audrey Everson and Chloe Daugherty each picked up wins by scores of 8-6, 8-3, 8-4 and 8-4, respectively.

The team of Patel and Jernigan also got a victory in the doubles category by a score of 6-3.

The Lady Bobcats did get wins over Sherlyn Alvarez in singles action and the team of Everson and Daugherty in a doubles match, but the Rebelettes still won overall by three.

The singles matches on the boys side of the match were a little more split with the Rebels getting wins in three of the five matchups.

John Barnhill led the way for Franklin with an 8-1 win while Om Patel and Nathan Duchadel also got victories by scores of 8-4 and 8-6, respectively.

Meanwhile, Paul McRae and Amare Perkins each took single losses to the Bobcats.

The Rebels would then sweep the doubles matches for the day as Barnhill and McRae won 6-2 and Om Patel and Amare Perkins got a win by a 6-1 margin. The sweep secured a three-point win for the Rebels.

With the win, the Rebels and Rebelettes both opened the year with records of 1-0.

They will next play Friday at home against Marshall County High School. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
