Members of the Franklin County High School boys and girls tennis teams competed in their district individual tournaments Friday at the Shelbyville Recreation Center.

There were varsity singles and doubles brackets for the boys and girls as well as JV singles brackets for both divisions. The top two finishers in each varsity bracket earned berths to the regional individual tournaments.

Franklin County’s John Barnhill came the closest to reaching that qualifying benchmark as he reached the semifinals of the varisty singles bracket before falling to Coffee County’s Jayden Talley in straight sets.

Barnhill started his tournament run with an 8-0 sweep over Lawrence County’s Logan Bradford in the first round.

Teammate Om Patel also won his first-round matchup as he picked up an 8-3 victory against Lawrence County’s Andrew Daniel.

Barnhill and Patel would face off in the quarterfinals with Barnhill winning the battle between Rebels by a score of 8-2.

Talley was in complete control of the opening set of the semifinal matchup as he won the first four points before getting a 6-1 victory.

Barnhill had a better showing in the second set as he kept it close in each game, but Talley would win the last two games to get a 6-3 victory and end the match.

Chloe Daugherty made it to the quarterfinals of the girls varsity singles tournament after an 8-2 victory in the opening round.

However, her run would end there as she took an 8-2 loss to Shelbyville’s Ainsley Noel in the next round.

Demi Champion took an 8-0 loss to Lawrence County’s Makayla Chavez in the first round of the varsity singles bracket.

Franklin County had three teams in the doubles tournaments with each taking a loss in the first round of their respective brackets.

The doubles team of Paul McRae and Amare Perkins had a competitive match before taking an 8-4 loss in the boys tournament.

Hunny Patel and Emily Jernigan also put up a tough fight in their match before falling to Lawrence County’s Annalee Story and Emily Story by a score of 8-5. The duo of Audrey Everson and Emma Brandon took an 8-0 loss in their match for the opening round.

In the girls JV singles bracket, Franklin County had two players in competition with both falling in the first round. Leanna Hobbs took a 4-2 loss while Olivia Edwards lost by a score of 4-0.

Xander Brammer represented Franklin County in the boys JV singles bracket and took a close 5-3 loss in his first-round contest.
