The Franklin County Rebelettes played in the Southern Slam Varsity Tournament in Manchester on Saturday and finished with a 1-4 record for the day.

The Rebelettes went 1-2 in pool play before losing both of their games in the Silver bracket to finish fourth overall in their division.

Franklin County head volleyball coach Alveda Gaines said her team played well overall, but fatigue set in over the course of the day with only seven players available for the varsity team due to a second Rebelettes squad playing in another pool.

“We were just playing shorthanded, and I think as the day went on, the girls just got worn out,” Gaines said.

The Rebelettes opened pool play with a loss to district rival Lincoln County High School in straight sets.

The Lady Falcons won both sets decisively by scores of 25-9 and 25-13.

The next game for the Rebelettes would come against the Eagleville High School Lady Eagles.

The Rebelettes struggled in the first set as they dropped it by a score of 25-15. However, they bounced back to narrowly win the second set by a margin of 26-24.

The third and final set would be another close one with the Lady Eagles pulling away late to beat the Rebelettes by a score of 15-11.

The Rebelettes would have their strongest performance of the day in their final pool match as they beat the Tullahoma High School Lady Wildcats in straight sets.

They claimed victory in the first set by a score of 25-15 before winning the second set by a much closer margin of 25-22.

The 1-2 performance in their pool placed the Rebelettes into the Silver bracket where they played the Ezell-Harding Christian School Lady Eagles in the semifinals.

The Lady Eagles handed them a loss in straight sets by scores of 25-18 and 25-22 to move them into the consolation game.

The Rebelettes got matched up against the Fayetteville City Lady Tigers in the consolation game for the Silver bracket and again took a loss in straight sets.

The Lady Tigers dominated the first set to win 25-7. The Rebelettes gave them more of a fight in the second set, but they still lost by a score of 25-18.

With the results of the tournament, the Rebelettes moved to 6-20 on the season.

There was also a second Franklin County team in action at the event which was a mix of varsity and JV players.

The second Rebelettes team went 0-3 in pool play with losses in straight sets to Columbia Academy, Fayetteville and the hosting Coffee County Central Lady Raiders.

This record placed the second Rebelettes team into the Bronze bracket. They lost their first game in the Bronze bracket to the Enrichment Academy Lady Knights.

The Lady Knights won the match in straight sets by narrow margins of 25-20 and 25-23.

The Rebelettes then played the Tullahoma Lady Wildcats in the consolation game for the Bronze division.

The second Rebelettes team played another close match, but they again lost in straight sets by scores of 25-22 and 25-20 to finish 0-5 for the tournament and fourth overall for the Bronze division.

They will next play Tuesday at home against Warren County High School. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
