Franklin County's Piper Smith jumps to hit the ball during a match Saturday for the Southern Slam tournament. The Rebelettes would finish the event with a record of 1-3.

The Franklin County volleyball Rebelettes competed in the Southern Slam tournament in Manchester on Saturday, finishing with a 1-3 record in the event.

The Rebelettes went 1-2 in pool play for the event before dropping two close sets in the semifinals of the Silver Division bracket. Their pool matches were held at Westwood Middle School with the Silver Division bracket games being held at the Coffee County Raider Academy.

The Rebelettes started the day off with a loss in two sets to the Middle Tennessee Christian Lady Cougars.

The Lady Cougars started the match off with a 17-3 run as part of a convincing 25-7 win in the opening set.

The Rebelettes were able to keep things a little closer in the second set, but they still trailed for the entire frame before taking a 25-17 loss to end the match.

After a few hours of rest, the Rebelettes returned to the court for their second pool match against the Lawrence County Lady Wildcats.

The match against the Lady Wildcats would start off almost identically to Franklin County’s first match of the day as the Lady Wildcats took the opening set by a score of 25-7.

The Rebelettes briefly gained a lead early in the second set, but the remainder of the series would be controlled by the Lady Wildcats as they won by a score of 25-17 to finish off another sweep.

The final match in pool play for the Rebelettes would come against the Cascade Lady Champions with Franklin County winning in three sets.

The teams were never separated by more than four points in the first set as the teams went back and forth before the Rebelettes ended the series with three straight points for a 27-25 win.

The Rebelettes held a 22-16 lead late in the second set and seemed poised to sweep the match, but the Lady Champions rallied with a 10-2 run for a 26-24 victory to extend the contest.

However, the Rebelettes would emerge victorious in the last set as they ended the series with seven straight points to seal a 15-7 win.

Their 1-2 record gave the Rebelettes a third-place finish in their pool, placing them in the four-team Silver Division with a semifinal matchup against Mount Juliet Christian Academy Saints.

The Rebelettes jumped out to an early lead in the first set and held an 18-13 edge late in the frame, but the Saints would rally past them and give Franklin County a 25-23 loss to start the match.

The Rebelettes seemed set to tie the match when they took a 21-16 lead late in the second set, but the Saints would score nine unanswered points to take the set and the match by a score of 25-21.

With the results from the tournament, the Rebelettes moved to 6-7 on the season.

They will next play Monday at home against St. Andrew’s-Sewanee School. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m.
