Middle school Lady Hornets drop road game to Fayetteville

The Huntland Middle School Lady Hornets lost to the Fayetteville Lady Tigers 48-24 on the road Thursday for their fifth loss of the season.

A majority of the deficit was created in the first half as the Lady Hornets weren’t able to rally back from an early double-digit disadvantage.

The Lady Tigers led off the game with a big offensive push as they were able to quickly put the Lady Hornets behind by a wide margin.

Huntland trailed 17-5 after one quarter.

The Lady Hornets did all of their scoring in the second quarter from the free-throw line as they lost a little more ground on the scoreboard.

They trailed 29-10 at halftime.

The Lady Hornets were able to build up more offensive momentum in the third quarter, but the deficit still continued to grow against them. Catara Johnson scored six of Huntland’s eight points in the third quarter.

They trailed 42-18 going into the final period.

The deficit remained steady throughout the fourth quarter as the Lady Hornets lost by 24.

Johnson led the Lady Hornets with 11 points for the game, followed by Millie Walker and Loralie Mason with four points each.

Abbey Mason scored three points and Haylee Allen scored two.

With the loss, the Lady Hornets moved to 3-5 on the season.

They will next play Tuesday at home against Community Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
