Lady Trojans rout WCA for home victory

The South Middle School Lady Trojans beat the Winchester Christian Academy Lady Lions 37-11 at home Monday for their second win of the season.

The Lady Trojans took a decent lead early in the contest and dominated in the second half to snap a three-game losing streak.

The Lady Lions opened the game with their best offensive period as they were just a few steps behind the Lady Trojans to start the day. Alanta Cornett scored all six of WCA’s points in the first quarter.

South led 10-6 after one quarter.

The Lady Trojans doubled their lead in the second quarter as they continued to slightly outpace the Lady Lions in the first half.

South led 18-10 at halftime.

The Lady Lions were held to just one point in the third quarter on a free throw by Mary Elizabeth Orr as the Lady Trojans took advantage to grow their lead to more than 20 points.

South led 33-11 going into the final period.

The Lady Trojans didn’t allow any points in the fourth quarter as they were able to remain comfortably in front and won by 26.

Victoria Latham led the Lady Trojans with 12 points for the game, followed by Zoe Cole with 10 points and Chloe Cole with six.

Khylee Speich scored four points, Lilah Banks and Addyson Hill scored two points each, and Lana Fuqua scored one point.

The Lady Lions were led in scoring by Cornett with eight points, followed by Julianna Shetters with two points and Orr with one.

With the win, the Lady Trojans improved to 2-3 on the season.

They will next play Thursday at home against Coffee County Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
