Middle school Lady Hornets drop home matchup to Fayetteville

The Huntland Middle School Lady Hornets lost to the Fayetteville Lady Tigers 31-21 at home Thursday for their second loss of the season.

After a close first half, the Lady Tigers pulled away after halftime as the Lady Hornets were not able to produce enough scoring to catch up.

Both offenses got off to slow starts in the contest with the score tied at 4-4 at the end of the opening period.

The score remained relatively close throughout the second quarter with the Lady Tigers building up a small lead by the end of the half. Catara Johnson scored four of Huntland’s six points in the second quarter.

The Lady Hornets trailed 13-10 at halftime.

A 3-pointer by Johnson gave the Lady Hornets the only points of the third quarter while the Lady Tigers doubled their advantage.

Huntland trailed 19-13 going into the final period.

The Lady Tigers fully pulled away in the fourth quarter as the Lady Hornets lost by a final margin of 10 points.

Johnson led the Lady Hornets with 13 points for the game, followed by Abbey Mason with six points and Loralie Mason with two.

With the loss, the Lady Hornets moved to 3-2 on the season.

They will next play Monday at South Lincoln Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
