The non-denominational, nonprofit 931Cares organization would like to extend an invitation to the community to share a meal together on Thanksgiving Day.

Last year, 931Cares, which was founded by John Wine 18 months ago, focused on delivering and offering meals on Thanksgiving Day to those who would probably not otherwise get to experience a holiday meal. To say the least, the move proved to be a success and was greatly appreciated by members of the community.

Wine said he is passionate in the outreach 931Cares brings to the community and takes inspiration from the biblical scripture instructing people to “love thy neighbor.”

Wine said he wants the community to feel welcome on Thanksgiving to come together and share a meal and some conversation.

This year will be the second Thanksgiving Day event for 931Cares.

In 2022, 700-800 people were fed on Thanksgiving Day by the organization through the way of meals delivered, meals served as to-go items and meals where participants could sit down in-person and enjoy each other’s company.

“This is an event for everyone,” Wine said, summing up his organization’s focus. “This has gone beyond just 931Cares and has expanded to a community event.”

This year, several businesses, including The Table and Winchester First United Methodist Church, are coming together to make the event possible, Wine said.

For those who would like to come in-person, the event will be hosted at Winchester First Methodist Church, 100 S. Jefferson St., Winchester, and The Table, 106 Rogers St., Cowan, from noon to 4 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

Volunteers are needed and greatly appreciated, Wine said, adding that they will aid in serving and delivering meals and visit with those who could use a new friend and some good conversation.
