Rebel golfers compete in regional tourney

Four members of the Franklin County High School boys and girls golf teams competed in the Region 4AA tournament Monday at the Bear Trace at Tims Ford.

The top team in the region and the top three individuals outside of that team received berths to the Class AA state tournament with the Franklin County golfers in action not being able to reach that qualifying mark.

Jackson Lynch had the best overall performance of the day for Franklin County as his 18-hole score of 84 put him eight strokes behind Cookeville’s Brant Kardatzke for the final individual qualifying spot.

Lynch finished tied with Coffee County’s Brady Daugherty and Thomas Houston and Isaac Smith from Stone Memorial for 21st out of 40 individual boys overall.

Chase Towry also represented Franklin County in the boys portion of the tournament and recorded a score of 86 to finish tied with Aiden Wyatt and Colton Reecer from Upperman and Ethan Poston from Cookeville for 27th place.

The other individual qualifiers for the boys half of the tournament were Tullahoma’s Alex Miller and Cookeville’s Owen Hill with equal scores of 74.

Miller, Lawrence County’s TJ Gobble and Hill led the entire boys field with their scores of 74, and they respectively finished in first, second and third in the official standings after a three-man playoff.

The Lawrence County Wildcats claimed the regional championship and a state berth on the boys side of the event with a total score of 303. The Rebels didn’t have enough golfers competing to qualify for the boys standings.

In the girls half of the tournament, the Rebelettes finished fifth out of six teams with a combined score of 197 for the day. The DeKalb County Lady Tigers took the top spot in the rankings with a mark of 175.

As individuals competing for Franklin County, Amelia Maxon and Savana Pendergraff both finished near the middle of the standings.

Maxon completed the course with a score of 98 to finish 14 strokes behind Lincoln County’s Addie Neal for the final individual berth. Maxon also placed 12th overall out 22 girls golfers for the day.

Pendergraff followed afterward in 13th place for the tournament with a mark of 99.

The other individual qualifiers for the girls half of the tournament and their scores for the day Warren County’s Lauren Slatton, 72; and Marshall County’s Nellie Neece, 82. Slatton’s score of 72 was the lowest of the day for any golfer.

Following the conclusion of the tournament, Maxon, Pendergraff and Towry were named to the all-district team for the season.

The Region 4AA tournament marked the end of the golf season for the Rebels and Rebelettes.
