Cross country Rebels, Rebelettes advance to state meet

The Franklin County High School boys and girls cross country teams competed in the Region 4A-AA championship meet Wednesday at Henry Horton State Park with both teams advancing to the state meet.
The top four teams and the next five best individual times outside of those teams received berths to the Class A-AA state meet with the FCHS Rebels and Rebelettes both finishing fourth in their respective divisions to claim the final group-qualifying spots.
The meet began with the girls race as Ruby Webb finished the 5K in 22:43.77 to take 14th place out of 98 runners. Hume-Fogg’s Kyrian Sychareune recorded the top time in the girls portion of the meet with a mark of 19:45.7.
Audrey Stewart was the next Franklin County runner to finish the course as she took 26th place with a time of 23:44.32, and Catherine Money followed close behind with a mark of 23:56.92 to finish 30th.
Zulema Martinez ended the race with a time of 24:23.8 to place 36th for the day, and Lily Heath finished 46th with a mark of 25:50.82.
Rounding out the performances for the Rebelettes were Aahna Carter in 67th place with a time of 29:42.06 and Addy Hannaway in 69th with a mark of 29:51.67.
The Rebelettes finished fourth out of 11 teams in the girls standings with their group score of 139 giving them a narrow two-point edge over Macon County for the final state berth.
The other team qualifiers on the girls side and their scores for the day were Hume-Fogg, 47; Tullahoma, 53; and Central Magnet, 58.
Owen Stewart recorded the top time for the Rebels in the boys race as he finished 14th out of 154 runners with a mark of 18:20.92. The top overall time in the boys race belonged to Central Magnet’s Ty Brown with a mark of 16:45.2.
Daniel Heath was also able to crack the top 30 as he placed 27th for the meet with a time of 19:16.47.
Jasper Henley completed the course in 19:52.93 to take 38th place, and Austin Heath recorded a time of 20:10.32 to finish 46th.
The next three runners for the Rebels came in rapid succession as Josh Smith, Cristian Fravel and Michael Vasenko finished 68th, 69th and 71st, respectively, with marks of 21:20.6, 21:21.68 and 21:29.8.
The remaining runners for the Rebels and their times and placements for the day included Mason Phillips, 88th, 22:15.47; Kane Hawkersmith, 96th, 22:38.19; and Aden O’Neal, 144th, 29:31.31.
The Rebels placed fourth out of 15 teams in the boys standings to join the Rebelettes as state qualifiers as their team score of 152 put them 17 points ahead of fifth-place Macon County.
The other team qualifiers on the boys side and their scores for the day were Central Magnet, 19; Hume-Fogg, 51; and Tullahoma, 151.
The FCHS boys and girls cross country teams will next compete on Nov. 3 in the Class A-AA state championship meet at Sanders Ferry Park. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1:50 p.m.
