The Franklin County High School boys and girls golf teams competed in the District 8AA tournament Monday at the Bear Trace at Tims Ford with four local golfers qualifying for the Region 4AA tournament.
The top three teams and the top five individuals outside of those teams received berths to the regional tournament with seniors Amelia Maxon and Savana Pendergraff advancing as a team on the girls side while fellow seniors Chase Towry and Jackson Lynch qualified as individuals for the boys portion of the event.
Towry had the best overall performance for Franklin County on the day as his score of 75 put him in a tie with Marshall County’s Easton McMahon for second place out of 33 boys individuals, and Towry and McMahon were also the recipients of the first two individual qualifying berths as a result.
Tullahoma’s Alex Miller had the top score of any golfer at the tournament as he completed the course in 73 strokes.
Jackson Lynch won a close race for the fifth individual boys berth with his score of 92 putting him one stroke ahead of teammate Evan Lynch and Shelbyville’s Hoyt Wessner for the final spot. Jackson Lynch finished in a three-way tie with Tullahoma’s Keegan Taylor and Lawrence County’s Dalton McCawley for 16th place overall.
Towry will be making his second trip to the regional round in as many seasons while Jackson Lynch will be playing in the regional tournament for the first time.
The other individual qualifiers on the boys side and their scores for the day included Marshall County’s Ronan Scott, 87; and Shelbyville Central’s Seth Sharp, 88.
On the girls side, Maxon and Pendergraff were guaranteed a trip to regionals going into the district tournament due to the total number of girls competitors matching the number of berths available, but they still earned their spot in the next round by finishing as the district runners-up.
The Rebelettes ended the event with a team score of 204 to place second out of four teams in the group standings. The Lincoln County Lady Falcons were the district champions with a total score of 189, and Coffee County claimed the final team berth with a score of 219 to finish third.
Maxon ended the event with a score of 101 to finish in a tie for fourth place with Lawrence County’s Ansley Kizer and Tullahoma’s Miley Dennis out of 11 girls golfers. Lincoln County’s Addie Neal completed the course in 85 strokes to take first place on the girls side.
Pendergraff was close behind with a mark of 103 to finish in seventh place in the individual rankings.
Maxon will be making her fourth trip to the regional tournament while Pendergraff is advancing to regional play for the third year in a row.
Rounding out the performances for the Rebels on the boys side were Brody Metcalf with a score of 103 and Brady Hall with a mark of 112.
The Rebels finished fourth out of seven teams for the day with their group score of 363 putting them 24 strokes behind Coffee County’s tally of 339 for the final team berth.
Lawrence County took first place in the boys rankings with a score of 330, and Tullahoma followed closely behind in second place with 333 strokes.
The qualifying Rebel and Rebelette golfers will next compete Monday in the Region 4AA tournament at the Bear Trace at Tims Ford. Tee times for the event had not been confirmed at the time of writing.
