The Franklin County High School girls soccer team beat the Blackman Lady Blaze 1-0 on the road Wednesday for the team’s 11th win of the season.

Franklin County took the lead late in the first half and held onto it for the rest of the day as the team picked up its fifth straight victory and extended its overall unbeaten streak to seven games.

Baylor Russell provided the lone score of the day for either team in the first half as a free kick from Osiris Rodriguez deflected off of the crossbar for Blackman’s goal and found the feet of Russell who finished the play and fired a shot into the net.

It was the 11th goal of the season for Russell.

Franklin County led 1-0 at halftime.

Franklin County kept up the pressure on the opposing goal throughout the second half and dominated the time of possession for the game as a whole, but no additional shots would find their mark for the rest of the game.

On the other end of the field, Franklin County’s defense and goalkeeper Brenna Carroll held off the limited scoring chances for the Lady Blaze as the team recorded its eighth shutout of the campaign in the win by one.

With the win, Franklin County improved to 11-3-1 on the season.

The girls soccer team will next play Monday at home against Warren County High School. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
