FC girls soccer blows out Stone Memorial in road matchup

The Franklin County High School girls soccer team beat the Stone Memorial Lady Panthers 6-0 on the road Thursday for the team’s 10th win of the season.
Franklin County carried a slight lead into the halftime break and turned the game into a blowout in the second half as the program recorded its fourth straight victory.
The first goal of the day came seven minutes into the contest with Cali Banks scoring off an assist from Caitlyn Cashion to give Franklin County the early advantage.
Baylor Russell appeared to score a few minutes later on a header, but the goal was nullified by a foul with Russell being issued a yellow card for making contact with the opposing goalkeeper on the play.
Franklin County led 1-0 at halftime.
The lead doubled less than two minutes into the second half as Banks scored after receiving a cross from Karly Neal for her second goal of the day and her 11th of the season.
Russell added to Franklin County’s advantage about a minute later as she hit a high shot into the net to make it a 3-0 game.
Russell struck again about two minutes later as she scored off an assist from Banks to put the Lady Panthers in a 4-0 hole.
The next goal came off the feet of Gracen Baggett as she fired a shot into the net with five minutes remaining after the ball bounced between a few players in the goal box for her sixth goal of the year.
Franklin County was awarded a penalty kick in the last few minutes of the contest with Russell converting on the attempt to complete a hat trick. Russell has 10 goals this season for Franklin County.
On the other end of the field, Franklin County goalkeeper Brenna Carroll and the defense in front of her recorded the unit’s seventh shutout of the campaign.
With the win, Franklin County improved to 10-3-1 on the season.
The girls soccer team will next play Thursday at home against Franklin High School. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
