Lady Hornets rout Cornersville for home victory

The Huntland High School Lady Hornets beat the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs 5-1 at home Tuesday for their ninth win of the season.
The Lady Hornets did a majority of their scoring in the first half and were able to cruise from there as they picked up their fourth straight victory.
Bristol Moon recorded the first goal of the day for the Lady Hornets as she scored off an assist from Hazel Reed.
Raegan Johnson followed with the next goal as she received a pass from Chelsea Walker and chipped the ball over the opposing goalkeeper’s head for her fourth score of the season.
Moon scored again later in the first half with Reed providing the assist once more to bring the early lead up to 3-0.
Reed provided the final goal of the first half for Huntland as she received a pass from Moon and worked around the defense before firing a shot into the net. It was the sixth goal of the season for Reed.
The Lady Hornets led 4-0 at halftime.
Moon completed a hat trick in the second half as she scored off an assist from Marley Phillips for her third goal of the day and her sixth of the season.
The Lady Bulldogs avoided the shutout with a second-half goal, but the Lady Hornets didn’t allow any other scores as they won by four.
With the win, the Lady Hornets improved to 9-3 on the season.
They will next play Tuesday at home against Community High School in a semifinal game for the District 9A tournament. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
