Freeman advances to regional golf tourney

The Huntland High School boys golf team competed in the District 11A tournament at the Henry Horton Golf Course Monday with freshman Lucas Freeman qualifying for the Region 6A tournament.

The top three teams and the top five individuals outside of those teams received berths to the regional round with Freeman earning one of those qualifying spots as an individual.

Freeman recorded a score of 91 for the day which put him in eighth place out of 46 individuals at the event and gave him the third individual berth. Eagleville’s Koltt Bassham had the top overall score for the day with a mark of 74.

The other individual qualifiers from the event and their respective scores for the day were Community’s Logan Miller, 88; Richland’s Landon Johnson, 88; Fayetteville’s James Layne, 93; and Fayetteville’s William Pettie, 93.

Landon Farmer had the next-lowest score for the Hornets as he finished his 18 holes in 114 strokes to take 33rd place among all individuals.

Carson Riley followed with a score of 121, and Kamden Smith ended the day with a score of 128.

Maddux Riley carded a score of 135 to round out the overall performances for the Hornets.

The Hornet golfers finished eight out of nine teams in the group standings with a total score of 454.

The boys teams receiving regional berths and their scores for the day included Eagleville, 331; Moore County, 398; and Giles County, 401.

Freeman will next play in the Region 6A tournament Friday at the Henry Horton Golf Course. He is scheduled to tee off for the event at 9:04 a.m.
