Rebelettes sweep Shelbyville for home district win

The Franklin County Rebelettes beat the Shelbyville Central Golden Eaglettes in straight sets at home Thursday for their second win of the season.

The Rebelettes picked up a close victory in the opening set and then convincingly won in the next two frames to get their first district win of the year.

The Golden Eaglettes took a 15-9 lead to start the opening set before a run of six straight points by the Rebelettes tied the score at 15-15.

The teams traded points back and forth the rest of the way with the Rebelettes scoring the last two points of the set for a 25-23 victory to begin the match.

The Rebelettes never trailed in the second set and ended the game on a 13-5 run for a decisive 25-14 win to give themselves an overall 2-0 lead.

A run of nine straight points early in the third set put the Rebelettes up 10-5 in the frame as they tried to clinch the victory.

The Golden Eaglettes chipped the lead down to 17-16 later in the set, but the Rebelettes then scored eight straight points for a 25-16 win in the frame to secure the sweep.

With the win, the Rebelettes improved to 2-4 on the season and 1-3 in district play.

They will next play Tuesday at Spring Hill High School. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
