Trojans top Unity for home victory

The South Middle School Trojans beat the Unity Lions 40-14 at home on Aug. 15 for their second win of the season.

The Trojans put together their highest-scoring game of the season so far as they steadily pulled away from the Lions to move their overall record for the season back above .500.

Six South players scored touchdowns in the contest as quarterback Levi Lindsey led the way with a trio of scoring plays. Lindsey threw two passing touchdowns on the day and called his own number on a rushing score.

Bentley Baldwin also contributed to the passing attack as he threw a touchdown in the victory.

Brennan Taylor scored a pair of rushing touchdowns for the day with Kaveon Sutton also scoring a touchdown on the ground.

Jack Price and Jacoba Fells caught one touchdown each to round out the offensive effort. Price also kicked four extra points in the contest.

Lindsey finished the game with 72 passing yards and four rushing yards. Baldwin had 53 passing yards for the contest.

Jonah Holt led the team in rushing yards as he carried the ball seven times for 125 yards.

Sutton carried the ball five times for 62 rushing yards and caught two passes for 70 receiving yards.

Taylor had 40 rushing yards on three carries and caught a pass for 17 yards.

Price had two receptions for 23 yards, and Fells carried the ball once for 22 yards and caught a pass for 15 yards.

With the win, the Trojans improved to 2-1 on the season.

They will next play Tuesday at Huntland Middle School. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
