Estill Springs celebrating 75 years Saturday
C
Three quarters of a century might not be a long time, geologically speaking, but to Estill Springs, the magic number signifies the town’s 75th anniversary.
To commemorate the occasion, Estill Springs is holding a special celebration Saturday that will involve daylong activities, including craft vendors, a Kidz Zone with inflatable obstacles, live music, food vendors, a parade, and an evening finale complete with fireworks.
The day’s activities will get underway at 10 a.m. with a reception and historical display that will last until noon at the Young Moore Community Center, 200 Eastbrook Road.
Estill Springs Baptist Church, 102 Taylor Road, is also hosting an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The parade is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. and will follow a route beginning at the First Baptist Church of Estill Springs and ending at the Estill Springs City Park. Mayor David Kelley will deliver a speech and open a time capsule at 2 p.m. at the Boy Scout House in the park.
Another time capsule to start the town’s next chapter will also be buried.
Live musical performances will feature the bluegrass/gospel group Final Crossing Band from 2-4 p.m. and classic rock from the Wild Buck Band from 5-8 p.m. Fireworks will begin at dark, sometime around 9 p.m.
