The Estill Springs 6U all-star team competed in the District 8 6U tournament Saturday at home with the team dropping its two games for the day.
The tournament was played under modified Coach Pitch rules with each batter seeing three pitches before getting a chance to hit off of a tee if they didn’t put a pitch in play.
Estill Springs started the day with a 20-4 loss to Columbia Blue to fall to the bottom bracket.
Columbia Blue scored the first 10 runs of the day as the team hit the single-inning maximum of five runs in each of the first two frames.
Estill Springs got on the board with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second as Elijah Ragsdale hit into an RBI groundout and John Weddington added an RBI single to put the score at 10-2.
The third inning played out in similar fashion to the second as Columbia Blue scored five runs in the top half of the frame before RBI singles by Grayson Franklin and John Butner scored one run each for Estill Springs to make it a 15-4 game.
Columbia Blue hit the five-run maximum one more time in the top of the fourth to fully put the game out of reach as Estill Springs lost by 16.
Estill Springs returned to the field a few hours later to take on Columbia Red in an elimination game with Estill Springs losing by a score of 21-15.
Estill Springs got off to a fast start, hitting the five-run maximum for the first time on the day in the top of the first. Silus Burch, Ragsdale and Weddington drove in one run each, and Croy Young concluded the frame with a two-run single.
However, Columbia Red answered back with five runs as well in the bottom of the first to leave the early score tied at 5-5.
Estill Springs added one run in the top of the second on an RBI hit by Alex Angus before another five-run frame by Columbia Red put Estill Springs in a 10-6 hole.
A four-run frame from Estill Springs in the top of the third tied the score once more as Ragsdale and Young added RBI singles for one run each and AJ Ragland hit an RBI double and came all the way around to score on the same play due to a fielding error to make it a 10-10 game.
However, Columbia Red put up another five runs in the bottom half of the third to take a 15-10 lead at the game’s midway point.
Estill Springs scored a pair of runs in the top of the fourth with Butner hitting into an RBI fielder’s choice and Connor Cole contributing an RBI single to cut the deficit down to three, but Columbia Red continued its streak of five-run innings to put the score at 20-12.
Estill Springs scored just enough runs to keep the game going in the top of the fifth as an RBI single by Angus and a two-run single by Cooper Terrill brought their team back to within five runs of the lead.
However, Columbia Red got the one run it needed to clinch the victory in the bottom of the fifth as Estill Springs lost by six to end the team’s tournament run.
The members of the Estill Springs 6U team were AJ Ragland, Maddox Hill, Connor Cole, Miles Garner, Cooper Terrill, Elijah Ragsdale, Silus Burch, John Michael Weddington, Grayson Franklin, John Butner, Croy Young and Alex Angus.
Little League All-Star action will continue next weekend as the District 8 10U and 8U tournaments will be held starting Friday in Tullahoma at Waggoner Park and Cascade Park, respectively.
