SHIRLEEN GIFFORD

 GIFFORD, Shirleen Stewart, age 74, of Decherd, passed away on Monday, May 29, 2023, at her residence while surrounded by her loving family.  A native of Franklin County, she was born on July 13, 1948, to the late James Howard and Mary Ruth (Farris) Stewart.  Before her retirement, Shirleen had been employed as a seamstress.  In her spare time, she loved to read and sew and also enjoyed baking and cooking for friends and family.  But most of all, she cherished the time spent together with her beloved family.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frankey Gifford and granddaughter, Lindey Jane Gifford.  Shirleen is survived by her loving children, Scottie (Bobbie) Gifford of Fayetteville, Tracie (Larry) Brown of Manchester, Jaimee (Bryan) Hamby of Decherd, and Dorrie (John) Powers of Decherd; siblings, Jimmy “Rabbit” (Kim) Stewart of Cowan, David Stewart of Decherd, Phillip “Bink” (Yvonne) Stewart of Winchester, Rita (Mike) Davis of Murfreesboro, and Jeff Stewart of Decherd; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.  Visitation was held on Thursday, June 1, 2023, from 1-3 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with services following at 3 p.m. in the Moore-Cortner Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Rev. MICHAEL FANNING

 FANNING, Michael Lynn, 50, of Lynchburg, died May 30, 2023. Preceded in death by father, Harry Lynn Fanning. Survivors include: mother, Margaret Fanning of Lynchburg; aunts, Mildred Mears and Carol Scott of Lynchburg, Jo Neal of Shelbyville. Services were held June 3, 2023, at Jennings-Moore-Cortner Funeral Home.  Interment, Frame Cemetery. 

NELL THORNTON

 THORNTON, Nell Wanda, age 88, of Winchester, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at her residence while surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Pelham, on May 31, 1934, to the late James Albert and Jessie Bell (Conry) Thomas. She had previously been employed at Wilton as a payroll clerk and at Walmart as a door greeter.  For the last several years, she had been a devoted homemaker.  Nell enjoyed reading, playing cards and had enjoyed gardening in her younger years.  But most of all, she cherished the time spent with her beloved family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and going places with her daughters.  She was a member of White Oak Grove Church of God.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald “Don” Thornton.  Nell is survived by her loving daughters, Beverly Thornton and Diana (Mark) Booth; grandchildren, Jason Rieben and Samantha (Edward) Troicke; and great-grandchildren, Elle Ashley Goodrich, Matthew Gann, Michael Gann, Lucas Troicke, Malachi Gann, Shilo Rieben and Caleb Tyrrell.  Visitation was held on Thursday, June 1, 2023, from 5-8 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home.  Funeral services were conducted on Friday, June 2, 2023, at 11 a.m. in the Moore-Cortner Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jonathan Blazer officiating.  Interment was at Franklin Memorial Gardens. Moore-Cortner Funeral Home, 300 First Ave NW, Winchester, TN 37398, 931-967-2222, www.moorecortner.com.

 

LISA GROCE

 GROCE, Lisa Gayle, age 57, of Belvidere, passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at her residence while surrounded by her loving family. A native of Franklin County, she was born on Jan. 17, 1966, in Winchester, to Homer Thurston and Julia Fay (Speck) Clark Jr. Lisa played basketball and was a cheerleader at Huntland High School and graduated from Abilene High School in Texas in 1984. Her love of sports continued as she played competitive softball in Winchester and Fayetteville and enjoyed watching baseball, softball, basketball and swimming. Lisa also enjoyed going to the beach and “putting her toes in the sand.” Her family will remember her as a loving, strong-willed fighter and as their “Grammy” and hero. Before her retirement, Lisa had been employed for 22 years at Walmart. She was a member of Maxwell Baptist Church. Lisa is survived by her loving husband, Steve Groce; children, Amber (Nathan) Gilliam, Heather (Ronnie) Stahl Jr., Krystin (Michael) Loyd and Logan Groce; parents, Junior and Julia Clark; grandchildren, Isabella Gilliam, Fynlee Gilliam, Keegan Stahl, Zane Stahl, Weston Stahl, Lennox Stahl, Gwyneth Loyd and Griffin Loyd; siblings, Terry (Bonnie) Clark and Tracy (Danny) Green; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation was held on Monday, June 5, 2023, from 5-8 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at 1 p.m. in the Moore-Cortner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Robertson officiating. Interment followed at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery with Terry Clark, Tracy Green, Amber Gilliam, Heather Stahl, Krystin Loyd and Logan Groce serving as pallbearers.
