Rebelettes drop opener for district tourney at Coffee County

The Franklin County Rebelettes lost to the Coffee County Lady Raiders 17-2 on the road Thursday in a first-round game for the District 6-4A tournament.

The Lady Raiders put up 15 runs in the second inning alone to put the game out of reach early as the Rebelettes dropped down to the elimination bracket with the loss.

The Rebelettes were able to hold the Lady Raiders off the board in the opening inning, but that wouldn’t last for long.

After the first batter in the bottom of the second flew out, the Lady Raiders had their next 16 batters reach base with 15 of them ultimately coming around to score.

The Rebelettes loaded the bases in the top of the third on singles by Paislie Edge, Emma Owens and Carissa Montgomery before Jocilyn DeSmet hit a two-run single to temporarily stave off the mercy rule.

However, the Lady Raiders got those two runs back in the bottom half of the third as the contest was brought to an early end.

With the loss, the Rebelettes moved to 4-23 on the season.

They will next play Friday at Shelbyville Central High School in an elimination game for the District 6-4A tournament. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
