The Franklin County Rebelettes lost to the Shelbyville Central Golden Eaglettes 10-4 at home Thursday for their 18th loss of the season.
The Rebelettes kept pace with Shelbyville early in the contest, but the Golden Eaglettes pulled away in the middle innings to give them a loss in the district game.
Franklin County head softball coach Kelly Kennedy said her team was outplayed on offense throughout the day.
“Shelbyville did what we didn’t do and that was put the bats on the ball. They got them on, moved them over and scored them. We didn’t execute that,” she said.
The Golden Eaglettes struck first on the scoreboard with a two-run home run by their cleanup hitter in the top of the first making it a 2-0 game early.
The Rebelettes were able to respond in the bottom half of the first as a two-out RBI double by Kaitlyn Montgomery and an RBI single by Alyssa Sherrill immediately after tied the score at 2-2.
The Golden Eaglettes scored a run on a squeeze bunt in the top of the second, but an RBI double hit by Emma Owens in the bottom of the second created a tie game once more at 3-3.
However, the Golden Eaglettes scored three runs in the top of the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth to make it a 9-3 game.
The Rebelettes were able to load the bases in the bottom of the fifth after Carissa Montgomery singled, Jocilyn DeSmet doubled and Kaitlyn Montgomery got hit by a pitch, but a double play ended the inning before they could chip away at the deficit.
The Golden Eaglettes got their final run of the day in the top of the sixth to put the score at 10-3 late.
The Rebelettes scored one more time in the bottom of the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Kaitlyn Montgomery, but that would be it for their offense as they lost by six.
With the loss, the Rebelettes moved to 3-18 on the season and 0-6 in district play.
