FC boys soccer outpaces Shelbyville for road district win

The Franklin County High School boys soccer team beat the Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles 4-2 on the road Thursday for the team’s sixth win of the season.
Franklin County jumped out to an early lead and stayed in front throughout the district contest as the team recorded its third straight victory.
Cason Eslick got Franklin County on the board with a goal about six minutes after the opening kickoff.
Franklin County added to the lead on another shot by Eslick about 10 minutes later as his second goal of the day and his third of the season put the early advantage at 2-0.
The Golden Eagles scored their first goal midway through the first half to make it a one-score game, but Kevin Hernandez added a goal for Franklin County with about eight minutes remaining in the period to grow the lead back up to two.
Franklin County led 3-1 at halftime.
The Golden Eagles adopted an aggressive game plan to start the second half and ultimately scored on a close-range free kick to make it a 3-2 game.
However, Hernandez scored his second goal of the contest midway through the half to boost the lead up to two once more. Hernandez has 10 goals this season for Franklin County.
Franklin County held the Golden Eagles off the board for the remainder of the contest to seal the win by two.
With the win, Franklin County improved to 6-3 on the season and 3-1 in district play.
The boys soccer team will next play Tuesday at home against Coffee County Central High School. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
