Rebels pick up shutout win at Warren County

The Franklin County Rebels beat the Warren County Pioneers 1-0 on the road Monday for their seventh win of the season.

The Rebels scored the lone run of the game in the top of the third inning, and pitcher Sam Vincent recorded a complete-game shutout to secure the district victory.

An error by the Pioneers in the top of the third allowed Vincent to reach second base with one out in the frame, and another error a few batters later on a ball hit by Payton Miller allowed Vincent to cross home plate and break the scoreless tie.

The Pioneers put runners in scoring position in each of the first three innings, but Vincent held them off the board each time.

The Rebels collected their lone hit of the game in the top of the fifth as Miller hit a two-out single to move a recently walked Austin Roberts to third base. However, Roberts wouldn’t move up any further as the score remained at 1-0.

The Pioneers threatened to tie the score in the bottom of the sixth after a leadoff double gave them another runner in scoring position, but Vincent induced a flyout and two straight groundouts to get out of the inning.

After hitting the first batter in the bottom of the seventh, Vincent forced the next batter to hit a pop-up for an out and recorded two straight strikeouts to finish off the game.

Vincent ended the contest with eight strikeouts and five hits allowed in the shutout performance.

With the win, the Rebels improved to 7-5 on the season and 2-3 in district play.

They will next play Tuesday at home against Warren County High School. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
