Rebels drop road contest to Lincoln County

The Franklin County Rebels lost to the Lincoln County Falcons 6-0 on the road Thursday for their 11th loss of the season.

The Falcons pulled ahead early in the contest while the Rebels were limited to two total hits for the day in the shutout loss.

The Falcons scored two runs off of a wild pitch in the bottom of the first to quickly jump ahead on the scoreboard, and a solo home run in the bottom of the second put the Falcons up by a score of 3-0.

The Rebels got their first hit of the day in the top of the third on a two-out double by Austin Roberts with Roberts advancing to third base on a wild pitch a few pitches later, but he would be stranded there after a strikeout ended the inning.

The Falcons doubled their lead in the bottom of the third as their cleanup hitter recorded a solo home run and two runs scored off an error with two outs to make it a six-run game.

Payton Miller hit a one-out single for what would be Franklin County’s second and final hit of the day, but a double play followed shortly after to end the frame.

The Rebels were able to load the bases in the top of the seventh as Casen Gilliam and Wyatt Lowe both drew walks and Gavin Sells got hit by a pitch with two outs in the inning, but a fielder’s-choice groundball ended the game as the Rebels lost by six.

Josiah Cullins pitched the first three innings for the Rebels with three strikeouts, five hits, four earned runs and two unearned runs allowed.

Miller recorded three scoreless innings in relief with two strikeouts and no hits allowed.

With the loss, the Rebels moved to 10-11 on the season.

They will next play Friday at home against Grundy County High School. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
