WILLIE DUCKWORTH

DUCKWORTH, Willie Marie (Ingleburger), born June 27, 1933, passed from this life Monday, April 3, 2023, at the age of 89.  She was born in Franklin County to J.W. and Bessie Ingleburger, who preceded her in death.  Willie was also preceded in death by her husband, Walton “Bud” Duckworth and stepdaughter, Connie.  She is survived by twin sister, Lillie Clark and husband, Kenneth; one son, Dwight Duckworth and wife, Stacey; one daughter, Tappiann Hopkins and husband, Mike; four grandchildren, Rebecca McDonald and husband, C.J., Walton Duckworth, Corey Hopkins and Claire Hopkins; one great-grandchild, Lotus McDonald; and a host of friends and church family.  She was a member of the Elk River Baptist Church.  Visitation was held on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, from 5-8 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home.  Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Bro. Leon Williams and Bro. EMELIN PEARSON

 PEARSON, Emelin Prince, age 95, of Cowan, passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at Southern Tennessee Regional Health System.  A native of Franklin County, she was born in Cowan on June 6, 1927, to the late James Ira and Agnes (Williams) Prince.  Before her retirement, she was employed by the United States Postal Service.  In her spare time, Emilin enjoyed making crafts, working in her flowers and reading as well as traveling around the world. She loved collecting and making her home a wonderland to explore with her treasures.  Most of all, she loved to laugh.  Her sense of humor made her so delightful to talk to and share stories.  A devoted mother, she cherished the time spent with her beloved family.  Emelin will be so deeply missed always.  It brings great comfort to know she is happy and safe with our Lord. She was a member of the Button Club and Cowan Cumberland Presbyterian Church.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis Alton Pearson and son-in-law, Rand Hicks.  Emelin is survived by her loving children, Jimmy (Linda) Pearson, Steve (Rose) Pearson, Suzanne Hicks, Mark (Tammy) Pearson and Drew (Betsy) Pearson; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.  Graveside Services were conducted on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Cowan Montgomery Cemetery with Rev. Ronnie Pittenger officiating. DENNIS TOWRY

TOWRY, DENNIS MITCHELL, age 61, of Huntland, Tennessee, departed this life on Friday, April 7, 2023, at St. Thomas Mid-Town in Nashville, Tennessee, following a brief illness.  He was born in Cedar Lake, Indiana, on Sept. 30, 1961, to Jean Morris Towry and the late A.J. Towry.  Mr. Towry was a carpenter for several years before becoming disabled.  He was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church.  Mr. Towry’s favorite hobby was working in his greenhouse; he seemed to have been born with a green thumb.  He was a U.T. football fan and he and his mother were both Atlanta Braves baseball fans and would often watch the games together.  He enjoyed fishing and hunting when he was younger and able to.  He was very talented with drawing and could draw anything he wanted.  Mr. Towry never met a stranger and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his father, Mr. Towry was preceded in death by his brother, Calvin Towry. He is survived by his mother, Jean Towry of Huntland; aunts, Shirley Morris of Scottsboro, Alabama, and Bernice Morris of Melbourne, Florida; special “grandchildren,” Chasity Ward and Christopher Ward, both of Huntland; and numerous friends and extended family members. Visitation was held on Monday, April 10, 2023, from noon until 2 p.m. followed by services at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Grant Funeral Services with Eulogist Marvin Morris officiating. Interment followed in the Morris Cemetery in Estill Fork, Alabama.

CHARLES ANDERSON

ANDERSON, Charles Henry, age 85, of Lynchburg, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 8, 2023, while surrounded by his loving family in Huntsville, Alabama. A Moore County native, Charles was born in Lincoln County to the late Robert Lee Anderson and Louella Crouch. He owned his own business where he operated heavy equipment. Charles was best described by his family as a “good hearted man” who loved watching the Andy Griffith Show and visiting friends and family during his retirement. He was also a member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Robert “Bob” and Louella “Lou” (Crouch) Anderson; wife, Billie Joe Anderson; son, Ricky Anderson; and brother, J.B. Anderson. He is survived by his daughters, Vicky (Tab) Slayton of Huntsville, Alabama, and Kimberly Simmons of Flintville; son, Steve (Nan) Anderson of Flintville; daughter-in-law, Sue Anderson; grandchildren, Nicholas Anderson, Joseph Anderson, Erica Brannon, Hannah Vann, Brian West and Jennifer Simmons; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sister, Elouise Towry; and brothers, Bobby Anderson and Haskell “Bo” Anderson. Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, from 5-8 p.m. in the Roy B. Watson Chapel at Watson Funeral Home. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at 1 p.m. in the Roy B. Watson Chapel at Watson Funeral Home with Brother Ray Gardner officiating. Interment followed at Shady Grove Cemetery. CARL LANDIS

 LANDIS, Carl Laroy, age 91, of Winchester, Tennessee, departed this life on Sunday, April 9, 2023, at his residence following an extended illness.  Mr. Landis was born on July 17, 1931, in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Carl LaVerne Landis and Viola Bower Landis. Mr. Landis was veteran of the U.S. Army, serving his country during the Korean War.  Mr. Landis was of the Catholic faith.  He was proud to have been a fire fighter for the Dayton Fire Department for approximately 23 years and left as a Dayton Fire Lieutenant. He then was employed as a bookkeeper and was a “math whiz”; numbers and accounting came easy for him. Numerous candy jars occupy his house and, along with his drink of preference, Coca-Cola, he lived his life sugar-induced.  He never knew a stranger.  He could and WOULD strike up a conversation with anyone and everyone.  He will be remembered for being a loving husband, father, son, brother and family man. He is survived by his wife, Julia “Judy” Landis of Winchester; sons, Carl M. Landis of Sound Beach, New York, Craig M. Landis and wife, Shelly of Pelham Tennessee, Teri Landis Grismer and husband, Steve of Dayton, Ohio, and David M. Landis of Florida; grandchildren, Jacob Landis of Pelham, and Kennedy Landis of Cookeville, Tennessee; brother, Don Landis of Lebanon, Ohio; sister, Karen Hayes of Cincinnati, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews. No services are scheduled at this time.
