Tims Ford State Park hosts Food Truck Frenzy

The first annual Food Truck Frenzy held recently at Tims Ford State Park was a grand success despite the chilly temperatures at the time.

A wide variety of food-truck vendors gathered at the park on March 18 and gave out samples of their products.

Tickets were sold to guests which allowed them to sample food from 15 trucks. Customers could then cast their votes for their favorite vendor.

A total of 419 tickets were sold at this event.

The competition ran from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., but the event was an all-day affair. After the close of the competition, food trucks took orders and served items off of their full menu.

Live music, park programs and the park’s Nature Center were also part of the frenzy.

The first-place winner of the Food Truck Frenzy was 2 Chicks on a Roll. As the victor, 2 Chicks on a Roll was awarded a free contract to serve food at Tims Ford State Park for a full year.

The runner-up was Kirby’s Food Truck, followed by Tacos Del Dragon in third place.

The second and third places were awarded a contract to serve food at the state park at a discounted rate.

Food trucks can be an ideal way for park guests, campers and the general public to enjoy a full day at Tims Ford State Park without needing to leave at meal times.

The park’s administrative secretary, Shelby Funk, said the event created a fun atmosphere for the area.

“The air was honestly filled with laughter as people walked around with lots of samples in their hands, enjoying the atmosphere,” Funk said.

Every food truck either ran out of food or had to replenish their supplies throughout the day.

Tims Ford State Park Manager Shawn Settle was quite impressed with the public turnout and positive reviews.

“This is a great spring event to welcome the community to the park,” Settle said.

Plans for next year’s Food Truck Frenzy are already being discussed and in the works.

Tims Ford accepts applications for food-truck vendors throughout the year.

Those interested in becoming a food-truck vendor can get applications at the Tims Ford park office, located at 570 Tims Ford Drive in Winchester.

Guests can stay up to date on all park events, including the 2024 Food Truck Frenzy, on the Tims Ford State Park website and Facebook page.
