FC boys soccer tops Warren County in road regional game

The Franklin County High School boys soccer team beat the Warren County Pioneers 5-0 on the road Friday for the team’s eighth win of the season.
Franklin County took an early lead and pulled away in the second half as the team secured the No. 1 seed in the District 6AAA tournament with the shutout victory.
Franklin County scored one goal in the first half as Rylan Banks fired a shot into the net to give his team an early advantage.
Franklin County led 1-0 at halftime.
Kevin Hernandez gave Franklin County a little breathing room early in the second half as he scored a goal to make it a 2-0 game.
Banks would break through for his second goal of the day and his eighth of the season a few minutes later to boost the lead up to 3-0.
Franklin County was awarded a penalty kick later in the second half after Hernandez got taken down in the goal box, and Hernandez then converted on the attempt for his second goal of the day as the deficit grew to four. Hernandez has 15 goals this season for Franklin County.
Cason Eslick provided the fifth and final goal for the day as he placed a long shot in the corner of the net for his fourth score of the season.
On the other end of the field, Franklin County’s defense held the Pioneers off the board throughout the contest as the team recorded its fifth shutout of the year.
With the win, Franklin County improved to 8-3 on the season and 5-1 in district play.
The boys soccer team will next play Friday at home against Tullahoma High School. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
