The Franklin County Rebelettes lost to the Lipscomb Academy Mustangs 6-3 at Crockett Park Saturday in a quarterfinal game for the Silver bracket at the Brentwood Invitational.

All of the scoring was done in the game’s first two innings as the Rebelettes weren’t able to overcome an early deficit against the bracket’s eventual runner-up.

The Mustangs capitalized on a few errors by the Rebelettes in the bottom of the first to score a trio of runs in the frame.

The Rebelettes responded by tying the score in the top of the second as Jocilyn DeSmet hit an RBI single, Natalie Hagood scored on a passed ball and Leah Henley hit into an RBI groundout to put the score at 3-3.

However, the Mustangs put up another three runs in the bottom of the second to reset the deficit back to where it was at the start of the inning.

The Rebelettes weren’t able to score any runs in the next two innings, and the 75-minute time limit for the game expired after the top of the fourth as they lost by three to end their tournament run.

Hagood pitched the first 1 1-3 innings for the Rebelettes with three hits, four earned runs and two unearned runs allowed.

Miley DeSmet pitched the remaining 1 2-3 innings with one strikeout, two hits and no runs allowed.

With the loss, the Rebelettes moved to 2-13 on the season.

Rebelettes 12, Grace Christian 10

The Rebelettes beat the Grace Christian Academy Lady Lions 12-10 at Crockett Park Saturday in a first-round game for the Silver bracket at the Brentwood Invitational.

The Rebelettes saw a five-run lead turn into a one-run deficit in the shortened game’s final inning, but they fought back with three runs in the bottom half of the frame for a pseudo-walk-off win to snap a 10-game losing streak and advance to the next round of the bracket.

The Lady Lions were the first team up to bat and scored a pair of runs in the top of the first on a two-run home run.

The Rebelettes quickly flipped the scoreboard in their favor in the bottom of the first as Paislie Edge scored on a passed ball, Emma Owens followed suit by scoring on a wild pitch, Madi Taylor hit an RBI single, Jocilyn DeSmet added an RBI double and Henley contributed an RBI single of her own to give them a 5-2 advantage.

The Lady Lions pushed another two runs across in the top of the second to tighten up the score at 5-4.

Kaitlyn Montgomery hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the second to put the lead back at three, and a two-run triple by Jocilyn DeSmet later in the frame gave Franklin County a 9-4 lead.

The Lady Lions rallied with six runs in the top of the third to put the Rebelettes behind by a score of 10-9 as the time limit for the game drew close to expiring.

However, the Rebelettes weren’t out of the game as Carissa Montgomery hit an RBI single in the bottom of the third to tie the score.

Kaitlyn Montgomery followed with a two-run triple to give the Rebelettes the lead, and the game was called immediately afterward as they advanced to the quarterfinals.

Hagood pitched the first 2 2-3 innings of the game with one strikeout, eight hits, six earned runs and four unearned runs allowed. Kaylee Morris recorded one out in relief with no hits and no runs allowed.

With the win, the Rebelettes improved to 2-12 on the season.

Stone Memorial 10, Rebelettes 2

The Rebelettes lost to the Stone Memorial Lady Panthers 10-2 at Crockett Park Saturday in their final game of pool play at the Brentwood Invitational.

The Lady Panthers scored multiple runs in four of the game’s five innings as the Rebelettes weren’t able to keep pace with them and ultimately finished pool play with a record of 0-3.

The Lady Panthers put up a pair of runs in the first inning to take an early lead, but the Rebelettes matched them early as Hagood hit a two-run double to tie the score at 2-2.

After a scoreless second inning, the Lady Panthers put up three runs in the top of the third to retake the lead, and they added two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth to grow the deficit to 10-2.

On the other side of the action, the Rebelettes were held hitless from the second inning onward with the time limit for the game expiring after the bottom of the fifth to seal the loss by eight.

With the loss, the Rebelettes moved to 1-12 on the season.

They will next play Tuesday at Warren County High School. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
